Through services like these, TRON Association is aiming to create new computer architectures and a computer culture, contributing to the sound development of an information-rich society and helping to spur industrial and economic growth worldwide.
Activities
- Education and promotion of TRON
- Creating specifications and promoting their adoption as standards
- Protecting intellectual property rights
- Promoting the exchange of information regarding TRON
- Surveying industry and market trends
- Providing conformance testing and registration services regarding TRON
Activity Plans for Fiscal 2007 (April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008)
In fiscal 2007, TRON Association will further emphasize R&D-oriented activities to stimulate promotion of the TRON Project.
We are focusing on the following activities this year.
- I. Enhancing the Functions in the ITRON Specifications and Studying T-Kernel-Related Technologies
- We will study and develop the ITRON and T-Kernel specifications that have been promoted by the TRON Project. This year, we will focus on the study of T-Kernel-related technologies and on the revision and issue of ITRON specification documents.
We will continue efforts to collect information about the applications, technical specifications, and development tools related to the ITRON specifications and provide this information widely to the public.- II. Training Real-Time OS Engineers and Conducting the TRON Engineer Qualification Test
- In fiscal 2005, we prepared practical curriculums for ITRON and T-Engine/T-Kernel training courses, both of which include programming exercises, and started engineer-training activities based on these courses. Although joint seminars were held upon request from other organizations before that, we independently started practical RTOS courses in fiscal 2005.
In fiscal 2006, we endeavored to provide regular practical training courses and offered the courses seven times. In fiscal 2007, this activity will be continued to increase the frequency and to provide more engineers with opportunities to attend the courses.
We will also upgrade the course materials by reviewing and improving exercise tasks to make the curriculums more practical and effective.
As many engineers request higher-level exercise courses or application courses after completing the current training courses, we will provide them with information on the practical application seminars sponsored by TRON Association member companies. In addition, PR materials regarding joint seminars are ready and we will promote joint seminars widely outside major cities.
A plan is in place to start the TRON engineer qualification test jointly with the T-Engine Forum in fiscal 2007; we will examine outlines, operation, and other matters necessary to conduct the test.
- III. Promoting Use of Multi-Character OS Based on TRON Specifications
- We will promote use of the TRON Font Traceability System (TFTS: a technology enabling use of multi-kanji based on TRON specifications with conventional DTP (desktop publishing) software on Windows or Macintosh) in application fields such as the data-printing outsourcing business of printing companies or e-book systems.
We will also promote the T-Font Set, a multi-kanji font set created by Sakamura Laboratory of the University of Tokyo, which implements 120,000 characters x 3 font types with the TRON character codes.- IV. Researching Advanced IT Technology and Surveying Technological Trends
- We will conduct research and survey about computer architectures looking five to ten years ahead. As in the past year, we will study results and trends in advanced IT technology development, which is attracting wide attention in various fields such as microelectronics, RFID, and internet applications.
Activity Plans
1. Education and Promotion of the TRON Project
- (1) Holding TRON Project Symposium
- An exhibition “TRONSHOW” and an Enableware symposium “TEPS” will be held to present to the public the achievements realized over the past year of the TRON Project, the latest technologies, and TRON-specification application products.
- Related companies and organizations meeting together will present their products based on TRON specifications, and the TRON Project achievement will be exhibited and demonstrated. The keynote speech will cover the TRON Project status and future plans. The activities of the main subprojects will also be presented.
- For the TRON Enableware specifications, the achievements, applications, and case examples will be presented.
- (2) Conducting Real-Time OS Engineer Training Seminars
- To help accelerate the fostering of real-time OS engineers, training seminars will be held throughout Japan. Other activities will include preparing training seminar curriculums and plans, reviewing and upgrading seminar materials, and examining plans for web-learning courses.
- (3) Promoting through TRON Specification Seminars and Lectures, and TRON-Related Exhibitions and Demonstrations
- Seminars and lectures will be held to show the results of TRON specification projects such as the ITRON specification project, as well as to provide information on the latest technology and application examples.
- In exhibitions held by other organizations in related fields such as the embedded system field, presentations will be made on the TRON project achievements and status, and on application products conforming to the TRON specifications.
- (4) Promoting the TRON Project Overseas
- Overseas promotion and information collection will continue with a focus on Asia.
2. Overseas promotion and information collection will continue with a focus on Asia.
Each group has the following activity plans.
- (1) Advanced Technology Research Group
- The leader of the TRON Project, Dr. Sakamura, is available for lectures on original Japanese IT and advanced infrastructure-building technologies. These events provide an opportunity for the exchange of information on advanced IT technology development results and trends with TRON Association members.
- (2) ITRON Specification Study Group
- This group will enhance the functions in the ITRON specifications and study technology related to T-Kernel. In addition, it will collect and provide information about ITRON-specification application products, technical specifications, and development tools, and provide such information to the public.
- (3) TRON Multi-Character Application Group
- This group will encourage the application of the TRON-specification multi-character OS through promotion of TFTS and T-Font Set applications.
- (4) TRON Education and Promotion Group
- This group will create curriculums and make up plans for real-time OS engineer training seminars. It will also create, review, and upgrade the seminar materials.
- This group will also study matters concerning the TRON engineer qualification test, such as the preparation of examination questions and execution of the test.
